Multiple brush fires in Oceanside prompt road closures, evacuations OCEANSIDE, Calif. -- Evacuations and road closures have been put in place after multiple brush fires broke out in Oceanside Sunday afternoon.Crews responded to the scene in the 800 block of College Boulevard just before 2:30 p.m., according to authorities. By the time emergency responders arrived on scene, multiple brush fires had ignited along the road.As of 5:45 p.m., the forward rate of spread for the brush fires had been stopped, according to the North County Fire Protection District.According to Oceanside police, road closures have been implemented along SR-76 between Frazee Road and College Boulevard, as well as from Mission Avenue to Frazee Road. Nearby businesses were also evacuated and closed from the 700 to 800 blocks of College Boulevard. Two injured in plane crash near La Mesa church parking lot LA MESA, Calif. -- A small airplane crashed into a La Mesa church parking lot Sunday afternoon, injuring two people who were onboard the aircraft, authorities said.The plane had crashed around 3 p.m. in the bushes next to the evangelical Lake Murray Community Church on Lake Murray Boulevard, Heartland Fire-Rescue said. The plane did not explode or catch fire, according to fire officials.An ambulance was passing by the site of the crash, discovering the two passengers. Firefighters used a rope system to rescue the two passengers, Heartland Fire-Rescue said. The passengers -- both described as adult men in their 50s -- sustained moderate injuries in the crash. 64-acre vegetation fire burns near US-Mexico border: Cal Fire SAN DIEGO -- A 64-acre vegetation fire broke out in southeastern San Diego County Sunday afternoon, prompting evacuations in surrounding areas due to a continued structure threat.Around 2:40, the fire was reported near the Potrero County Park on Potrero Park Drive. The blaze had spread to about 20 acres after an hour, according to Cal Fire.
