Stillwater PD donates phones for abuse victims

STILLWATER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- October marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Saratoga County and the Stillwater Police Department recognized the month by collecting cell phones for victims of domestic violence. The phones are essential to those in abusive situations where access to communication could be cut off. "During an emergency incident, they can call for help.” Cordani started the annual event in 2003, working with local businesses to collect cell phones. Those phones are given to advocacy groups. Over the last 20 years, 7,000 phones have been donated to victims of domestic violence. SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A Ghent man was arrested following an investigation into illegal narcotic sales in and around Saratoga Springs. Thomas Bayer, 58, was taken into custody on an arrest warrant issued by the City Court of Saratoga Springs. Get the latest news, weather, sports and entertainment delivered right to your inbox! Bayer was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance in the second degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree. He was arraigned in City Court and released without bail. Bayer is due back in court on December 14. NISKAYUNA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A pedestrian is in serious condition after being struck by a CDTA bus in Niskayuna early Tuesday morning, according to Niskayuna Police. COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on Saturday. Akiem R. A preliminary investigation determined that Keele was traveling eastbound on Alternate State Route 7 at a high rate of speed.
